In continuation of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission’s (NIPC’s) role in providing aftercare services, the South East Zonal Office (SEZO) undertook a familiarization visit to Everight diagnostics, a centre with state of the art medical diagnostics equipment located in Owerri, Imo State, Southeastern Nigeria.

The visit led by Mr Eric Ani, head, South East zone, Enugu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary/CEO, NIPC briefed the Management of Everight on the mandate of the Commission, its facilitation and advocacy initiatives to encourage investments in the country.

In turn, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, Mr Everest Okpara who doubles as the President of Owerri Chambers of Commerce disclosed that he was one of Nigerians in the diaspora who brought investment home during the “Nigeria in diaspora foreign direct investment (FDI) campaigns” seven years ago. He further disclosed that they are in the process of expanding the centre with the addition of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) testing capability and it will cost over six hundred and fifty million nairas. While commending the visit he expressed hope that the Commission would provide facilitation and aftercare support for their expansion.

In a related development, the South East Zonal Office paid a visit to NALIS Pharmaceuticals Ltd. also in Owerri. They are into the production of drugs, especially liquid syrups. The company, which is new is, however, facing teething challenges due to inadequate infrastructure such as poor road networks, lack of transmission lines and electricity at the Owerri Industrial Park.

Briefing the NIPC team, the Managing Director/CEO, Nalis Pharmaceutics Ltd Mr Obinna Onwunali said he had invested a lot in building transmission lines, transformers and generators to get electricity to his factory, yet his power needs were not adequately met. He sought the intervention of NIPC to advocate on their behalf for the provision of required amenities to make the facility function optimally.
