DKT International Nigeria is pleased to announce the expansion of her reproductive health portfolio with the introduction of two new-generation daily contraceptive pills; dianofem and desofem, which are the first to be launched in Nigeria and have completed all regulatory processes and obtained NAFDAC approval.

The improved new-generation oral contraceptive pills have the potential to deliver real value in reproductive healthcare and offer women a variety of choices which will help improve the quality of their lives.

Improvements on combined oral contraceptives have been ongoing over the years and the third-generation pills have emerged containing an improved progestogen ingredient and these include; cyproterone acetate and desogestrel. More recent developments show that using the new improved active substances present in dianofem and desofem offer health benefits with fewer side effects.

dianofem is an oral daily contraceptive pill containing a well-balanced combination of an antiandrogen (Cyproterone acetate 2mg) and estrogen (ethinylestradiol 0.035mg) used safely and effectively in the treatment of acne, hirsutism (excessive facial and body hair growth), management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), as well as pregnancy prevention.

desofem is an oral daily contraceptive pill containing desogestrel 0.15mg and ethinylestradiol 0.03mg used safely and effectively in the treatment of menorrhagia (heavy menstruation), dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), as well as pregnancy prevention.

DKT Nigeria continues to be at the forefront through her wide distribution network of 100 field personnel to ensure these new pills are readily available to healthcare providers in all parts of Nigeria, including rural, hard to reach and conflict areas.

According to the Country Director of DKT Nigeria, Dimosthenis Sakellaridis: “Our goal is to develop new and improved products that meet women’s needs for safety and convenience. Thus, we are pleased to have achieved another important milestone by the introduction of these two daily oral contraceptives dianofem and desofem. These pills will help provide significant treatment to women’s skin and menstrual problems, as well as providing effective contraception”.
