The Lagos State Government is set to build a befitting and comfortable orientation camp for Corp members at the permanent orientation camp in Agbowa.

The Honourable Commissioner, for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins stated this when the outgoing State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for Lagos State, Mr. Sunday Aroni paid him a farewell visit.

He said that “thorough scrutiny of the old orientation site at Iyana Ipaja revealed that the camp was small and inadequate for over 29,000 Corp members deployed to the State annually. As such, there is a need to build a new, spacious and adequate permanent site as a replacement for the old Ipaja orientation camp”.

While commending the outgoing NYSC State Coordinator for his performance and contributions to the success story of NYSC in Lagos, Bamgbose-Martins wished Mr Sunday Aroni success in his deployment and future endeavours.

The Commissioner recalled the unfortunate incident that led to the demise of a youth corps member, Miss Naomi Awodi, who lost her life in a fatal accident, assuring that the State government will provide the necessary logistics support to convey the late Youth Corper to her home town in Benue State for a befitting burial.

Earlier, Mr. Aroni said that the aim of the visit was to formally inform Lagos State government of his deployment to Abuja and thanked the present administration for its support and cooperation during his eight-month stay in Lagos, saying “it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with officials of the State Government”.

Aroni, thereafter, introduced Engr. Eddy Megwa as his successor and implored the present administration, through the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, to support the new NYSC Lagos State Coordinator so that he will also witness a successful tenure in office.
