Gov. Ishaku Inaugurates Community Policing Committee

Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku has inaugurated the state community policing committee.

The event took place at the Exco Chambers Government House Jalingo.

Members of the committee include Emir of Muri Abbas Njidda Tafida, Representative of the Police, Douglas Mungonu, Representative of Police Community relations committee Abdullahi Gambo, Representative of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Jackson Joshua and that of the Muslim council Chindo Mohammed Bose.

Representing the Labour Union Peter Gambo, Civil society Organizations Joseph Gimba National Council of Women Society Punarimam Atenji, Youth Council of Nigeria, Udi Adamu, people living with disability and the Nigeria Bar Association.

Governor Ishaku commended the security operatives for their prompt response to security issues which has enabled citizens to sleep peacefully.

He advised the Federal Government to provide equipment and improve on the welfare of security operatives mostly the police to be combat-ready during a crisis.

He promised to fully support the community policing committee for them to succeed.

AIG Haliru Mohammed Gwandu, commander in charge of Zone 3 who represented the IGP, Abubakar Mohammed at the inauguration ceremony.

In his remarks, the Acting Inspector General of Police AIG Haliru Mohammed Gwandu in charge of Zone three applauded the giant stride of the Inspector General of Police Abubakar Mohammed for his foresight in the implementation of community policing.

The AIG appreciated the many support of Governor Ishaku on security emphasizing that it will spur the policing committee to work effectively.

Earlier, Commissioner of Police Taraba State Command, Amad Mohammed Azare expressed delight that the concept of policing which has become a global model in policing is implemented in the state.

He expressed hope that the Area Command community policing advisory committee, Local Government Community policing advising committee and divisional community policing committee will be inaugurated soon.

The Commissioner stressed that the philosophy of community policing was designed to encourage and enable communities to take greater responsibilities for their own safety and security among others.
