Shoprite Nigeria reports $162 million sales for the year ending June

The Shoprite Group’s Portfolio Management Office (PMO) gained international recognition recently when it won the 2020 PMO of the Year Award in Africa.

They have also reached the finalist stage in the coveted World PMO of the Year Award, competing against corporates from Honduras (Americas), Ukraine (Europe) and the United Arab Emirates (Asia-Pacific).

This latest accolade follows last year’s recognition as the top PMO in South Africa by the industry body representing the interests of project management professionals in South Africa.

“I’m overjoyed and extremely proud of our team in the PMO. We achieved our goal of winning in Africa and will also be competing against the best in the world for the global award. Our business continues to innovate and adapt to the challenges of an increasingly sophisticated sector, so this is a wonderful acknowledgement of the crucial role our team plays in ensuring that we stay ahead of our competitors.”

– Joseph Brönn, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Shoprite Group

Some of the ground-breaking projects managed by the Group’s PMO includes the roll-out (in under 18 months) of the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System across its operations in 15 countries as well as the launch of the platform on which the Checkers Xtra Savings card runs.

The PMO consists of highly skilled professionals who manage collaboration between all business units and the successful delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of projects.

The winners of the 2020 Global PMO Awards will be announced on 29 October.
