Roku Opens Amsterdam Office to Support International Expansion

Roku has announced that it is establishing and investing in an office in Amsterdam. Roku intends to expand its current presence in the Netherlands to support its international expansion.

The Amsterdam office will be located on Weteringschans and will be able to accommodate up to 150 employees. Roku is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, and has offices in Denmark, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

“TV streaming is a global phenomenon, and international expansion is a key focus area for us,” said Arthur van Rest, Roku’s Vice President of International. “We believe that attracting the right people is critical to our success, and we believe that The Netherlands has a lot of talent and expertise.” We will be looking for people to fill positions ranging from marketing and business development to finance and legal.”

“Amsterdam is establishing itself as a leading European hub for media and technology firms.” Our strong physical and digital infrastructure enables businesses to rapidly expand their international presence. A forward-thinking company like Roku is a welcome addition to our thriving tech and start-up scene. It will also provide numerous opportunities for Amsterdam’s diverse talent pool,” said Deputy Mayor Victor Everhardt.

Roku released its first streaming player in 2008, allowing customers to stream Netflix to their television. The company also has the only purpose-built TV operating system, Roku OS, which it licenses to more than 15 TV manufacturers in order to build easy-to-use and affordable smart TVs. Customers can watch thousands of free and paid streaming channels on the Roku platform. Roku works with these streaming channels to help them build, engage, and retain audiences, as well as drive content monetization.

Roku’s international expansion is a top priority. Roku launched its streaming players in Germany in September of this year, followed by a comprehensive marketing campaign to introduce the Roku brand to consumers. Currently, Roku streaming players are available in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. Roku also collaborates with TV manufacturers, such as TCL and Hisense in the United Kingdom, to develop Roku TV models. In terms of hours streamed, Roku is the most popular TV streaming platform in the United States (April 2021, Hypothesis Group). The Roku platform is currently available in over 20 countries, with 56.4 million active accounts as of September 30, 2021.
