Hermann Tischendorf has been appointed as MTN Group’s chief technology and information officer for digital and fintech.
“We are thrilled to have a seasoned executive of Hermann’s caliber join our expanding DigiFin team,” says MTN Group chief digital and fintech officer Serigne Dioum. “He brings the knowledge and experience that will accelerate innovative digital and fintech advancements in line with our strategic intent of leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.”
Tischendorf joins from 4Finance Group, where he was chief technology officer. He has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, where he has held numerous senior positions. Tischendorf has a proven track record of success in directing organizational growth, digital product development, operations management, IT budget allocation, and mergers and acquisitions.

“At MTN, Tischendorf will help improve customer engagement, experience, acquisition, and loyalty by bringing transformation and disruption to our mobile payment platform.” He will also be in charge of developing new products and services, as well as building the nascent ecosystem and scaling up existing revenue streams, according to the group in a statement.
Tischendorf earned a master’s degree in business administration and an honors diploma from Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Austria, and studied finance and banking at the University of California, Los Angeles’ Anderson School of Management (UCLA). His appointment became effective on December 1, 2021.
