Indications are that businesses and corporations in Nigeria are preparing to leverage the impending Fifth-Generation (5G) network rollout in Nigeria’s high-speed, capacity, and low latency features to form beneficial and useful partnerships between their organizations and digitally-inclined Nigerians.

This idea was echoed over the weekend in Lagos during the closing sessions of the AfricaNXT 2022 conference.
Panelists from various organizations expressed optimism about drastically reducing unemployment in Nigeria by collaborating with willing Internet-compliant Nigerians on various projects in advance of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s 5G deployment (NCC).

During a panel discussion titled: Built to Last: Hardcoding Resilience Into the DNA of Your Business, participants revealed that the organization created digital work tools and employment opportunities by collaborating with result-oriented individuals on a variety of financially rewarding technology projects, products, and solutions.

It was also noted that this was a method of retaining talents who wish to leave the organization but can still be partners delivering results remotely by leveraging the world of possibilities that will be unleashed by existing and next-generation technologies and being compensated for work done. They believe that smart contracts will reduce unemployment and ensure Nigeria’s long-term socioeconomic development.

Another panel discussion on Disruptive Public Relations in the Imminent Metaverse Era noted that, while not fully developed and deployed, the Metaverse (a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection) would allow its users to engage in shared experiences.

Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, stated that Nigerians should expect a lot of amazing things with the deployment of 5G services in the country, which he believes will positively impact Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.

In the meantime, Airtel Nigeria announced that customers on its network can now call their loved ones, family members, and friends in Ukraine for free and without any restrictions, emphasizing the importance of providing unrestricted access to everyone who needs to reach out to their loved ones in Ukraine.

Surendran Chemmenkotil, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, commented on the initiative, saying, “Airtel understands that many Nigerians are concerned about the safety and whereabouts of their friends, family members, and loved ones in Ukraine and want to stay connected with them in real time.”
