Access Bank Shuts Down Branch Over Scarcity Of New Note Scarcity

Access Bank has shut down some of its branches in Lagos State due to scarcity of naira notes and fear of been attacked by angry customers, BrandSpur Nigeria reports.

This online news platform reports that pne of its branches located in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State has been on lockdown for the past two days and counting.

When our correspondent visited the branch, a security guard (name withheld) said, the bank was shut down due to lack of cash.

Further enquiries revealed that there was no prior notice to this effect as customers were seen complaining at the entrance of the gate.

BrandSpur Nigeria reports that some video clips on social media showed how Access Bank is been attacked by angry customers in some states due to poor network and scarcity of new naira notes.

Meanwhile, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has called for calm and understanding among bank customers.

A statement by Akin Morakinyo, the Registrar/Chief Executive, CIBN, said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and operators (the banks) were working assiduously to bring the situation under control.

He called on bankers to carry on their duties with utmost professionalism and diligence.
