PMG Nigeria Appoints Former NBS CEO, Yemi Kale As Chief Economist

KPMG Nigeria has announced in a statement on Thursday, the appointment of the former statistician-general of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Yomi Kale as a partner and Chief Economist at KMPG Nigeria.

KPMG Nigeria also added in the statement that Yomi Kale will enhance its solutions in economic modeling and macroeconomic analysis.

“Kale will lead the firm’s view on macroeconomics and enhance the breadth of our solutions involving economic modeling & macroeconomic analysis, in private and public sector clients,” the statement reads.

“He has deep experience, gained from both the private and public sector, in macroeconomic analysis, financial, economic, and investment research, and fiscal and macroeconomic policy advisory. From 2011 to 2021, he served as the statistician general of the federation and chief executive officer of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).” according to the statement.

Yomi Kale born in 1975, had his degree in economics which he finished with a first class at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and also completed his master’s programme which he finished with distinction also from the same university. He went on to pursue a Ph.D. in economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

His mother, Aderonke Kale, was a major general and the first female two-star general in the Nigerian army and Kale has also earned his stars in both the private and public sectors both locally and internationally.

Yomi’s first opportunity in the private sector was at Goldman Sachs, a global finance company, where he worked as an equity analyst and later moved on to work as a quantitative analyst at Merrill Lynch Financial Services. He later became the group head of research and investment strategy at Investment Banking and Trust Company which is now Stanbic IBTC Bank.

He also served as a non-executive member on the board committee of both Skye Financial Services Limited and SFS Capital Nigeria Limited and in 2011, he was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan as statistician general of the federation and CEO of NBS.

He was later reappointed again for a second term of five years by current President Muhammadu Buhari which ended in 2021
