2023 World Environment Day: NIEE Lagos Donates 200 Jute Bags To ‘Alausa’ Staff To Embrace Eco-friendly Alternatives

The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Lagos State chapter on Wednesday, May 31, joined the state’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (office of environmental services) to flag off the No Plastic Day.

During the sensitization campaign which began at the Lagos State secretariat in Alausa, the Chairman of the Lagos chapter of the NIEE, Engr. Yusuf Majolagbe, discouraged the use of single-use plastic bags and bottles.

Employees who came into the secretariat with single-use plastic bags and bottles had them exchanged with multi-use bags and water bottles.

Addressing some of the workers at the secretariat’s main gate, Majolagbe said the plastic waste had become a critical issue affecting the environment.

Speaking on the theme of the 2023 World Environment Day, ‘Solutions to plastic pollution’, Majolagbe noted that the campaign was to ensure the best way residents can avoid single-use plastics and embrace eco-friendly alternatives so that the earth remains a comfortable home for humanity.

Having collaborated with the Lagos state government, NIEE Lagos paid a courtesy visit to the public service’s office and donated 200 jute bags to ‘Alausa’ staff.

This, according to Engr. Majolagbe, is to support the ban of single use plastics within the secretariat.
