Nigeria Idol S8: Constance's Eviction And Other Highlights From Week 7

Sunday evening provided another captivating live show on Nigerian Idol season 8. From eviction tension to spectacular performances, week seven was a loaded episode in all ramifications.

Here are highlights of the action-packed episode:

Tribute to AKA: The thrill started with a stunning tribute by the top 8 contestants to the late South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, professionally known as AKA. The artiste was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road, Durban, South Africa on February 10, 2023. The contestants performed AKA’s track, ‘Fela in Versace’, to pay their respect to the late artiste.

Progress as a guest: The Nigerian Idol season 7 winner was a guest on the live show. Progress said he is enjoying life as a Nigerian Idol, which should be an inspiration for the contestants. He also anchored a trivia questions session for each of the top 8 contestants about the artiste whose songs they were to perform on the night.

Viewers’ Choice: For the next episode of the show, Nigerian idol viewers have been given the unique opportunity to pick a song they want their favourite contestants to sing. You can select a song for your favourite contestant here.

Delightful performances: Nigerian Idol live shows are renowned for spectacular performances by contestants, and this episode didn’t disappoint the audience. Chisom set the ball rolling for the night with a calm delivery of ‘Holiday’ by Rema. This was followed by a captivating rendition of Oxlade’s ‘Ku Lo Sa’ by Goodness.

Quest was next with her performance of ‘Paradise Road’ by  South African female group Joy. Ose Daniel invoked the spirit of late Afrobeat legend, Fela, with his electric performance of ‘Zombie’. Savy Henry the crooner followed with his performance of ‘Jailer’ by Asa. Then came Victory who went  the Rastafarian route with his splendid performance of  ‘Prisoner’ by Lucky Dube.

Constance’s eviction: It was a tension-soaked evening for all the contestants, as they were informed that one of them was about to be evicted. Those called to perform were relieved, knowing they have survived another week on the show. After Victory’s performance, Precious Mac and 17-year-old Constance were the two left. They knew one of them was certain to leave the show. Precious Mac was called to perform ‘Umqombothi’ by Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Precious delivered a performance Yvonne would be proud of, while Constance’s remarkable journey on the show came to an end.

D’banj’s birthday celebration: The show ended with a surprise birthday performance for one of the judges, D’banj, who turned 43 during the week. Nigerian Idol season 6 winner, Kingdom, joined season 7 winner Progress, to deliver a special birthday song, as D’banj was presented with his birthday cake live on stage. It was a thrilling way to end the fun-filled night, as the ‘Koko Master’ provided a cameo of his entertaining vibe.
