UPDATE: Meta's Threads Records 30 Million Sign Ups In 1 day

Threads, launched by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has now recorded thirty million sign-ups on its first day.

This was announced in a Thread by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thread. Threads which was launched as a “friendly” rival to Elon Musk’s Twitter, which he took over in October.

According to experts Threads would keep attracting Twitter users who are already unhappy with the recent changes made by Elon Musk on Twitter. However, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino disclosed that although Twitter is “often imitated”, its community can “never be duplicated”.

Threads features already include 500 character threshold similar to Twitter’s 280 characters as well as many other features and designs.

However, Meta’s CEO Mark believes keeping the platform “friendly… will ultimately be the key to its success”.

But Musk replied, “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.”

Mark Zuckerberg also disclosed when asked whether Threads will be bigger than Twitter, he said “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it.

“Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

Although, concerns have been raised over the amount of data which the app might use, some which include health, financial and browsing data which would link users’s idenitties, this is according to Apple App Store.

Other users also expressed concern that it is not possible to delete your Threads profile without deleting your link Instagram profile. However, Meta responding to BBC said “At this time, you can’t delete your Threads profile without deleting your Instagram account. This is something we’re working on. In the meantime, you can deactivate your Threads profile at any time.

“Deactivating your Threads profile will not deactivate your Instagram account”.

The company also added that deactivation of Thread profile means, your posts and interactions with others’ posts would no longer be visible.
