No single Super Eagles player is in the official team of the group stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tonight.

Players from Senegal and Morocco, however, made up the majority of the AFCON 2023 Group Stage XI.

After 16 teams, including the Super Eagles, advanced to the round of 16, which will start on Saturday, the group phase came to an end on Wednesday night.

Despite finishing second in Group A with seven points, the Super Eagles did not seem convincing in any of their three matches; on goal differential, they were surpassed by Equatorial Guinea as the top-ranked team in Africa.

In the official CAF Group stage XI, Equatorial Guinea’s Jesus Owono starts in goal while Emilio Nsue, current AFCON 2023 leading scorer with five goals, is up front.

Semi-finalists for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Morocco are represented by four players: midfielders Sofyan Amrabat and Azzedine Ounahi, defenders Achraf Hakimi and Nayef Aguerd.

Defending champions, Senegal boast of three players led by center back Kalidou Koulibaly. Forward Ismaila Sarr and midfielder Lamine Camara make up the list of the Teranga Lions.

The team is completed by Angolan attacker Gelson Dala and left back Arthur Masuaku of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
