Tyla, a singer from South Africa, took home the Grammy for Best African Music Performance.
Tyla defeated a lineup of Nigerian artists that included Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Ayra Starr in 2023 after making her breakthrough with the hit song “Water.”
Even though Tyla, who is only 22 years old, didn’t anticipate winning her first Grammy, she was happy nonetheless.
In the other categories in which they have received nominations, neither Davido nor Burna Boy have yet to win.
