Amazon Uses Stripe Terminal To Power Payments For Just-Walk-Out Technology

The financial infrastructure platform for businesses, Stripe, announced that it is expanding its partnership with Amazon by powering payments for retailers in Australia and Canada that use Just Walk Out technology.

The Just Walk Out feature from Amazon is meant to make shopping simple. At the entry gate, the customer uses their credit card or mobile wallet to enter the store. The technology creates a virtual shopping session by detecting what customers take or put back on shelves. After finishing their shopping, customers can exit the store without having to wait in line. The items they take are charged to their selected payment method.

The WisePad3 reader from Stripe Terminal is used by retailers in Australia and Canada to scan physical entry gates. Stripe handles payments automatically once the visitor departs.

Stripe Connect will programmatically route payments from shoppers directly to businesses using Just Walk Out technology. Amazon will continue to benefit from API reliability on Stripe consistently exceeding 99.999% uptime and authorization rates that remain high during peak shopping periods.

“The only thing better than a speedy checkout is no checkout at all. I’m thrilled that Stripe is powering Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology payments,” said Eileen O’Mara, chief revenue officer at Stripe. “With Stripe Terminal and Connect, merchants using Just Walk Out technology will benefit from the same reliability that ensures millions of successful transactions on Amazon.”

In addition to Just Walk Out technology, Stripe serves as a strategic payment partner for multiple lines of Amazon business such as Prime, Audible, Kindle, Amazon Pay, and more.
