The MTN Group celebrated its 30th anniversary in the telecom industry by releasing its inaugural People Report which chronicles the inspirational journeys of over 17,500 MTN employees in 19 countries.

These individuals have collectively contributed to connecting people and inspiring lives for almost three decades.

According to Ralph Mupita, CEO of MTN Group: “This report describes what has been achieved over the last three years by the thousands of people across our footprint who have made our story such an inspiring one; a story that today touches the lives of more than 295 million customers on two continents.”

“Despite challenging conditions in many of our markets, our people continue to play important roles in society at large. They are providers of hope, dignity, and opportunity for many across Africa, their actions inspiring change and providing hope for a better tomorrow,” he added.

The People Report, accessed by BrandSpur telecom and IT news, emphasises the diversity of MTN’s global ecosystem, with MTNers representing four generations in the workforce, a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, and 40% female representation.

It also demonstrates how much MTN values its workers and how dedicated it is to fostering an environment at work that encourages diversity, creativity, and expansion.

It partly stated: “We listen to our people and shape our organisational culture to provide the best possible workplace experience. Through increased transparency and accountability, and through our remuneration strategy and framework, we actively work to ensure our people thrive in positivity and receive fair rewards and recognition.”

Through its agents and trading partners throughout Nigeria, the top telecom service provider, which started operating there in 2001, has been responsible for the development of two million direct and indirect jobs. Interestingly, MTN Nigeria employs 99% Nigerians and is a separately traded company.

According to the paper, MTN Nigeria was recognised for its efforts to provide a positive work environment when it was granted the title of “Best Overall Employer of the Year” by the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association in 2023.

MTN Nigeria’s leadership has instituted inclusion programs that prioritise women, persons with disabilities, varied generations, and multiple nationalities, all in keeping with the company’s motto of “Thrive in Positivity.”

MTN Nigeria employees attest to the company’s concern for their personal well-being, family welfare, and professional advancement.

Gladys Osaele, a Manager in the Division of Finance, cited: “I took part in the Acting Assignment under the Y’ello Careers programme. My expectations were exceeded. The intervention helped me step out of my comfort zone and explore the world of leadership.”

The people report emphasises MTN’s ongoing dedication to improving the lives of its employees and providing support to their families. Analyst Folarin Adekola of the Value Proposition and Customer Insight division stated: “The MTN Y’ello Kids Care and Play Centre has played a vital role in helping my son develop his cognitive abilities; he knows and can remember nursery rhymes, his visual and auditory processing and attention have improved tremendously since he joined.”

However, through this report, MTN provides a detailed overview of its plans and objectives for the development and empowerment of its workforce.

The first People Report is evidence of the significance MTN has placed on its employees throughout the years, as well as its unwavering dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion and providing chances that change lives.
