Ghana has awarded a significant contract to produce and sell seventy advanced Archer VTOL drones to Terrahaptix, the leading drone manufacturer in Africa. The $500k (about NGN 800M) deal was signed on July 22, 2024, and it will be in effect for a period of 24 months. Making this the biggest contract the nine-month-old firm has signed to date.

The Archers will be used by top drone services company GEMsolutions to expedite mapping and reconnaissance tasks for thousands of farmers in Ghana. Before converting to Terrahaptix, the corporation bought European UAS systems for their extensive mapping.

The greater range, flight autonomy, and sensor quality of the Archer UAS—which also has competitive price and strong warranty terms—were the main factors in Terrahaptix’s selection to win the contract. The GEMsolutions tactical reconnaissance and mapping system is made possible by the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capable Archer drone, which satisfies demanding specifications for sensor capability, flight duration, and range. It can fly for up to four hours at a time and has multispectral features including infrared and optical cameras for use in difficult daytime and nighttime settings, BrandSpur digital news platform reports.

Nathan Nwachuku, Terrahaptix’s chairman, stated: “We are proud to be selected by GEM solutions to provide our advanced Archer UAS to support agricultural operations in Ghana. Our collaboration with GEM solutions marks a significant milestone in our mission to support regional initiatives aimed at industrializing Africa.”
