In association with renowned Nollywood actor Nze Ugezu Ugeze, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has announced plans to host a two-week filmmaking training and mentorship program for young people. The program will result in the production of the first-ever “Made in Ichida” film.

During the Board’s media literacy program, “The Power of Parental Guidance in the Digital Age,” at St. Augustine’s Parish, Ichida, Anambra State, Husseini Shaibu, the Executive Director of the NFVCB, disclosed this.

In a statement accessed by BrandSpur art and entertainment news, Ogbonna Onwumere, the Director of Corporate Affairs at NFVCB, said that these align with one of the eight pillars of the Hon. Hannatu Musawa’s agenda for arts, culture, and the creative economy.

Onwumere said: “The point in reference talks about the provision of comprehensive skills acquisition and development programmes to ensure that the young Nigerians have the technical capacity to access opportunities across the creative sector.”

During the August meeting, the Executive Director—who has never disguised his open wish to see more women become media literate—gathered roughly 500 members of the Parish’s Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) to discuss the value of parental guidance in the digital age.

Husseini gave the women his word that they would leave the meeting with a better understanding of media literacy in the following areas: how to interpret the board’s classification symbols; the importance of phones and social media; how youth can be influenced by imitative techniques in films and social media; and why parents should keep an eye on their children’s phones.

The NFVCB’s classification symbols and their meanings were explained to the women. They were also shown how to locate the onscreen indicator that indicates the television movie’s categorisation ratings.

Continuing, they were also instructed on the appropriate age to grant kids complete access to Android phones and how to use certain applications to keep an eye on their kids’ phones.

Rev. Fr. Jude Nwankwo, the parish priest, praised the Board and the Executive Director in particular for their admirable initiative to raise our moms’ media literacy.

Chief Anene Uba, a well-known son of Ichida, decorated the executive director with beads as a sign of appreciation. The Board also gave out branded face caps, T-shirts, umbrellas, and some publications that included frequently asked questions for the women.
