UBA Onboards Chukwuma Nweke As Second Managing Director, Announces Kayode Fasola’s Resignation From Director’s Board

Chukwuma Nweke was recently appointed as the second Deputy Managing Director of the United Bank for Africa (UBA). Previously, he has served as Executive Director, Retail & Payments, and Chief Operating Officer.

He will begin his new role as Deputy Managing Director on October 1st, the financial institution announced in a statement yesterday.

According to Ramon Olanrewaju, UBA’s Group Head of Media and External Relations, he is the Deputy Managing Director “In charge of IT and operations.”

The statement added that Muyiwa Akinyemi, who has served as the bank’s deputy managing director since August 2022, is now “The Deputy Managing Director in charge of Southern Operations.”

Chukwuma Nweke is a graduate of the University of Nsukka in Enugu State, where he also has a master’s degree in business administration. He graduated with a degree in accounting. He holds honorary memberships in both the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

In response to his appointment, UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu stated: “The appointment of Chukwuma Nweke underlines once again, UBA’s commitment to upholding the highest governance and operational leadership,”

He went on to say: “His deep industry expertise and proven track record make him an invaluable asset to our board, and we are confident that his contributions will further strengthen the group’s growth and success.”

Similarly, the pan-African bank, which operates in 20 markets throughout the continent, declared the retirement of Non-executive Director, Kayode Fasola from the Directors’ board.

Continuing, before joining the lender in August 2018, Mr. Fasola chaired the Finance & General Purpose Committee and was a member of the Credit, Statutory Audit, and Board Audit & Governance committees. Among his specialties are risk management, asset management, company strategy, banking operations, performance management, credit/financial analysis, and insurance.
