Refilling a 12.5 kg cooking gas cylinder with liquefied petroleum gas (N15,552.56) costs, on average, 69% more in 2024 than it did in the same period in 2023 (N9,194.41). This is because, in August 2024, the price per 12.5 kg jumped by 9.5 percent month over month to N15,552.56 from July’s N14,261.57.

This was revealed in the National Bureau of Statistics August LPG price watch, which was made public on Sunday and accessed by BrandSpur national news stories.

According to a state profile analysis, Rivers had the highest average retail price of N17,086.36 for refuelling a 12.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas, followed by Cross River and Abia at N17,050.00 and N17,012.52, respectively.

On the other hand, Bauchi had the lowest average price, at N13,425.00, followed by Nassarawa and Adamawa, at N13,640.94 and N13,725.00, respectively.

According to the data, Nigerians’ poverty is partly caused by the steadily rising cost of cooking gas. This is in line with NBS’s August inflation figures, which showed that the nation’s headline and food inflation rates were, respectively, 32.15% and 37.52% in August.
