The Standard Chartered Finance Master Class (FMC), an annual gathering of all finance professionals from the bank’s West Africa cluster, regardless of department, is scheduled to take place at Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria.

The purpose of the gathering is to exchange knowledge and insights about current developments in the finance industry.

In fulfillment of the Institute’s Mandatory Continuing Professional Development requirement, the FMC has received full accreditation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). The relationship between SCBN and ICAN has grown to be a selling point for the Institute and a focal point for the nation’s top Subject Matter Experts (SME).

The FMC, which is led by the Bank’s Finance team and is supported by volunteers from throughout the bank, has gained prominence and impact over the years. It was awarded the 2022 Standard Chartered CEO’s award for the edition that was focused on the question “Are you future ready?”

“The FMC is our flagship learning platform for over 150 professionally qualified accountants and finance practitioners in Standard Chartered Bank, working across different functions in Nigeria and 5 other countries in the West Africa Cluster,” said Dayo Omolokun, Executive Director (Nigeria) and Cluster Chief Financial Officer, in reference to the program. Attendees of FMC interact with thought leaders and industry experts to discuss a wide range of current issues influencing the finance industry, from changes in geopolitical economies to technological innovations.

Moreover, new technical accounting standards to “Future of Work Now” are being implemented. By helping finance professionals understand how “Glo-Cal” trends are interconnected, FMC prepares them for the future.

The FMC for 2024, with a theme of “What about Integrated Thinking, Integrated Reporting?” will take place on October 22–23, 2024, and both in-person and virtual attendance is welcome. A conceptual approach called integrated thinking pushes companies to take into account all the non-financial as well as the financial aspects that affect value creation. Using the tension between models to create value over the short, medium, and long term, this broad perspective aids companies in making better decisions by keeping an eye on the long term and fostering stronger stakeholder relationships, transparency, and accountability.

This year’s speaker lineup includes Kenneth Igbomor (CNBC Africa), Bode Abifarin (founder Flutterwave COO), and Abubakar Suleiman (MD/CEO Sterling Bank).

Among the speakers at previous FMCs were Temi Popoola, CEO of Nigeria Exchange Limited; Dr. Doyin Salami, economist and professor at Lagos Business School; Dr. Bismarck Rewane, CEO of Financial Derivatives Limited; Dr. Sola Adeduntan, former group MD and CEO of First Bank Nigeria; Oreoluwa Boboye, CEO of Jobberman; Bisi Lamikanra, former partner and head of advisory services at KPMG; and Dr. Temitope Oshikoya, chief economic strategist at Nextnomics.
