The Institute of Counselling in Nigeria (ICN) has announced that it will host the 17th edition of UNbutton, its quarterly 30-day free counselling session tagged UNBUTTON 17.0, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to improve people’s lives and well-being. This will allow Nigerians to receive professional mental health counselling and therapy sessions at no cost, along with therapeutic interventions.
Speaking about the upcoming event, ICN Executive Director, Dr. Tolulope Oko-Igaire stated that the goal of the organization’s quarterly free counselling sessions is to assist Nigerians who are dealing with a variety of mental health issues as a result of difficult financial, marital, or other circumstances. She also added that because of the alarmingly high rates of depression, suicide, and other mental health conditions, attending the free sessions could save lives.
She emphasised how the institute has worked with its member counsellors to facilitate individuals’ access to free professional counselling services and therapy during this time.
According to her: “Unbutton is a quarterly 30-day free counseling session put together by the Institute of Counseling as part of our CSR to encourage a mentally aware society as a whole.
“Mental well-being is essential for overall health as it impacts every other aspect of life and it is not surprising that a lot of people are not functioning optimally because of various mental health challenges they are dealing with daily coupled with the harsh economic reality.
“Sometimes, all you need to do is to talk and get some issues out of your chest and we have more than enough professional counselors who are trained in different areas of intervention to help you do justice to that,” she added.
Continuing, she has this to say: “We know so many people need help but cannot afford the fee; this is why ICN, in collaboration with our member counselors, is making it easy for you to access the service of a professional Counselor at no cost. Take advantage of this opportunity and unbutton to unburden. Life is worth living, and you deserve to be happy.”
ICN told Brandspur national news stories that interested parties can register on their website for the free counseling session, which will take place from November 1st to November 30th, 2024.

About ICN
To help people fulfil their aspirations of becoming licensed professional counsellors and close the knowledge gap between theory and practice, ICN was established in 2010 as a non-profit, independent educational organisation.
In Africa, it is also addressing the gaps caused by a lack of access to traditional education and the inability to obtain professional certifications in the fields of psychotherapy and counselling. Interested people who have a strong desire to assist others can also apply to join The Institute of Counselling in Nigeria as professionals, associates, students, or fellows.
