The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) National President has been chosen to be Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, a former Head of the organization’s Lagos Branch.
The election was held at the union’s zone secretariat along the Osogbo/Ikirun road in Osun state, and MC Oluomo was the only candidate. The election was attended by delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti, the four south-west states.
Aliyu Issa-Ore, the interim National President of the transport group, saw and observed the election, which took place during the union’s quadrennial delegate conference. He told the delegates that the union’s constitution states that the zone that is allowed to appoint a national president must choose its candidate and submit them to the national body.
Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, spoke on behalf of the interim NURTW President, who stated that the south-west zone had elected Oluomo as president in complete accordance with the constitution.
Additionally, the delegates elected Akeem Adeosun as the zone’s trustee and Tajudeen Agbede as the vice president for the southwest.
MC Oluomo stated in a statement following the oath of office available to BrandSpur national news stories that NURTW members need to make sure they are dedicated to maintaining the union.
Continuing, he had this to say: “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well.
“This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood,” he added.
However, it is expedient to know MC Oluomo was suspended by the NURTW in 2022 for alleged misbehavior, insubordination, and provocation; however, the suspension was revoked in 2023.
