Lagos State has granted the Wini Group permission to open the country’s first university solely focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in Epe.
Wini University seeks to establish Nigeria as a major force in technological innovation worldwide. The institution would act as a centre for technical development, giving young Nigerians advanced knowledge of artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing, and other cutting-edge technologies, according to a recent statement from Wini Group available to BrandSpur Nigeria news today.
Addressing unemployment and preparing graduates to lead and compete in the global AI industry are the goals of the effort. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose government has sought to establish the state as a centre for technology and innovation, supported the choice to locate the institution in Epe.
Olukayode Akano, Chairman of the Wini Group, also acknowledged that a major contributor to the project’s success was President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to luring in foreign capital and promoting economic change. Traditional Epe rulers and community leaders, such as HRM, Oba Rafiu Balogun, and Elejirin of Ejinrin, have strongly endorsed the proposal.
Continuing, ancestral lands have been set aside for the university’s permanent location in collaboration with the Lubajo-Egbe and Soje Kingdoms.
According to the company, by transforming Epe from an agrarian-based economy to a vibrant digital economy, Wini University is anticipated to greatly strengthen the local economy. It is anticipated that the project will boost Lagos State’s standing as an innovation leader in Africa and provide young people in the area with high-quality jobs.
The university is modelled after the first AI-focused University in the world, located in Qatar, which drew researchers and innovators from China, India, Europe, and the United States. By bringing renowned academics and international collaborations to Nigeria, Wini University hopes to duplicate this achievement.
