With 28 awards to recognise exceptional accomplishments in film production, culture, fashion, music, and other facets of African entertainment, the 11th edition of the esteemed Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), a celebration of African cinema and television, is set for May 10, 2025.

During a recent press conference to reveal the plans for this year’s ceremony, Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, made this announcement.

According to Tejumola: “The AMVCA has become a beacon of excellence. Celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of African storytelling, we are excited to once again open the doors for talented creatives across the continent to showcase their remarkable work to the world.”

The two main categories of this year’s awards are public vote categories, which let viewers choose the main winners, and non-voting categories, which honour technical prowess and artistry. Eighteen categories will be judged by a panel of industry experts who will concentrate on the backstage activities that influence the cinematic experience.

Fans will have a direct say in the results as the public will choose the remaining ten categories. The addition of a new category, “Best Music Score,” which honours composers and music experts whose work improves the narrative in films and television shows, is one of the noteworthy modifications for the next edition.

The announcement of the nominees is set for March 23 at 7:00 p.m. on all Africa Magic networks. As soon as the announcement is made, viewers will be able to vote on the official AMVCA website.

Continuing, the main event, which is scheduled for May 10, is expected to be a showcase of African entertainment, bringing together top actors, filmmakers, and industry participants. Millions of people will be able to watch the ceremony live on Africa Magic networks throughout the continent.

The expectations of filmmakers, audiences, and stakeholders continue to rise, and the AMVCA is committed to evolving with them. This year, we are responding to valuable industry insights and reinforcing our dedication to improvement.”

Odugbemi stated in the introduction of the “Best Music Score” category that the goal of the award is to showcase the talent of musicians and composers whose compositions enhance the emotional impact of works, BrandSpur entertainment and lifestyle news desk reports.

He went on to say: “With this category, we celebrate the creative professionals whose artistry brings authentic and lucid experiences to our productions.”
