
For the second consecutive month, Nigeria’s food inflation rate decreased, falling from 21.26 percent in April 2025 to 21.14 percent in May 2025.
This was revealed by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its most recent Consumer Price Index, which was made public on Monday. Likewise, headline inflation fell from 23.71 percent in April 2025 to 22.97 percent in May.
Despite the skyrocketing costs of necessities, the nation’s headlines and food inflation have decreased.

According to the NBS: “The food inflation rate in May 2025 was 21.14% on a year-on-year basis.”
Remember how the inflation rate fell to 23.71 percent in April? The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee (CBN-MPC) kept the interest rate at 27.50 percent in reaction to the decline in inflation in April.
