The Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), an initiative of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), has joined key stakeholders at the official launch of the Lagos State Women Economic Empowerment Policy Roadmap, held at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Speaking at the landmark event, Mr. Udeme Ufot, Board Chairman of the Policy Innovation Centre, praised the Lagos State Government for its leadership and commitment to advancing gender equality and economic inclusion through a bold, data-driven policy framework.
“Today’s event is not just a policy launch, but a significant milestone in our shared vision for a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous society,” Mr. Ufot said. “It signals Lagos State’s clear commitment to creating an enabling environment where every woman has the opportunity to contribute fully and meaningfully to economic development.”
Mr. Ufot emphasized that the roadmap is a product of deep consultation and collaborative engagement with diverse women across the state, including women with disabilities, market traders, young innovators, elderly women, and leaders across the formal and informal sectors.
“This moment affirms what we have always believed at PIC: that transformative change is only possible when policy is rooted in reality, shaped by data, and driven by empathy,” he added.
The Policy Innovation Centre played a facilitative role in the development of the roadmap, ensuring that it reflected the lived experiences and aspirations of women across Lagos State. Mr. Ufot applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, and the entire team of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), partners, and stakeholders who contributed to bringing the vision to life.
“The work ahead is significant, but it is also promising,” Mr. Ufot noted. “At the Policy Innovation Centre, we are ready to walk this journey with Lagos State, by offering continuous support to ensure this roadmap becomes a living, breathing instrument of progress.”
He concluded with a powerful reminder: “When we invest in women, we invest in the strength, stability, and success of families, communities, and nations.”
The launch marks a pivotal step in aligning state-level development efforts with national and global gender empowerment goals, with implementation set to kick off immediately across key sectors.
