Microsoft recorded the largest single-day market capitalisation increase in Wall Street history after adding nearly $450 billion in value during Thursday’s trading session, lifting the technology giant’s market worth to approximately $3.35 trillion.

The company’s shares surged more than 15 per cent after it released stronger-than-expected quarterly financial results and issued an upbeat outlook for its Azure cloud computing business, reassuring investors about the returns from its multi-billion-dollar artificial intelligence investments.

The record-breaking rally surpassed the previous one-day market value gain achieved by Nvidia in April 2025, highlighting renewed investor confidence in Microsoft’s long-term growth strategy. Brandspur Brand News reports that the company’s latest earnings eased concerns that its substantial spending on AI infrastructure was outpacing commercial returns.

Microsoft projected Azure revenue growth of 45 per cent on a constant-currency basis for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, exceeding analysts’ expectations. The company also reaffirmed its capital expenditure plans, maintaining significant investments in cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence to support future expansion.

The strong financial performance prompted several investment firms to raise their price targets for Microsoft’s shares, reflecting optimism over the company’s earnings outlook and competitive position in enterprise AI and cloud services.

The latest results represent a significant milestone in Microsoft’s long-term artificial intelligence strategy, which has accelerated since its partnership with OpenAI in 2019 and expanded following the global adoption of ChatGPT. Despite recent workforce reductions across parts of its global operations, the company has continued to increase investment in AI-powered products, cloud infrastructure and enterprise technology solutions, strengthening its position as one of the world’s most valuable publicly traded companies.
