The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior urged Muslims and Nigerians in general to use the occasion for reflection on the Prophet’s teachings of peace, humility, and tolerance. The government also called on citizens to pray for the unity, security, and progress of the nation. Eid-ul-Mawlid is an important day in the Islamic calendar, observed annually to honour the Prophet’s birth.
The declaration of the holiday is expected to allow Muslims across the country to gather for prayers and celebrations, while also fostering national cohesion and religious harmony among Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.
