Wema Bank has rolled out a voice-driven banking feature on its digital platform, ALAT, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s fast-evolving fintech space. The innovation follows the launch of an upgraded version of the application branded “ALAT, The Evolution.”
The enhanced platform, officially released on January 12, 2026, allows customers to carry out banking transactions through spoken commands using an embedded virtual assistant known as SAW, eliminating the need for manual inputs.
The lender said the new voice banking system supports full transaction execution from start to finish, combining speech recognition technology with personalised user security. Customers can customise the assistant’s voice preference, while identity verification is strengthened through voice-pattern recognition and an additional passcode layer.
Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that the feature was developed to address increasing demand for faster, more intuitive banking solutions, especially for customers managing transactions while on the move or outside traditional banking environments.
Speaking on the rollout, Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, said the upgrade reflects the bank’s long-term digital strategy aimed at simplifying banking while maintaining high security standards.
According to Oseni, the voice-enabled system allows customers to complete transactions in seconds without interrupting daily routines, describing it as a response to modern lifestyles where speed and convenience are critical.
He explained that the upgraded ALAT platform blends artificial intelligence with advanced security protocols to deliver seamless banking services for users both within Nigeria and across international markets.
Beyond voice banking, the refreshed application introduces a contactless payment option known as “Tap & Pay,” enabling secure transactions between nearby ALAT users. Another addition, Uptime Prediction, informs customers of recipient banks’ service availability before transfers are initiated, reducing failed transactions.
Wema Bank said the latest enhancements reinforce ALAT’s position as a pioneer in Nigeria’s digital banking landscape and signal the institution’s commitment to deploying emerging technologies that go beyond conventional banking functions.
