
Google Cloud and Liberty Global have announced a five-year strategic collaboration to integrate Google’s Gemini AI models and cloud solutions across Liberty Global’s European operations. The partnership, first reported on February 3, 2026, aims to enhance consumer services, improve network reliability, and drive innovation across the cable and telecom group’s major markets.
Brandspur Tech & Business News reports that Liberty Global, which serves around 80 million fixed and mobile connections across Europe, plans to deploy AI-powered search and discovery features on its Horizon TV platform, as well as automation for customer-service operations. The agreement also expands the availability of Google products—including Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and smart-home devices—through Liberty Global’s subsidiaries, such as Virgin Media O2 in the UK, Telenet in Belgium, VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands, and Sunrise in Switzerland.
The companies intend to leverage Google Cloud’s tools to enhance network security, pursue autonomous operations, and optimise the use of excess capacity in Liberty’s data centres, including via the AtlasEdge joint venture. The partnership also targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), offering AI, cloud, and cybersecurity services, while exploring ways to monetise telecoms data with strict adherence to privacy standards.

“Our goal is simple: to use technology to cut through complexity and bring value to our customers and partners,” said Tara Brady, Google Cloud president for the EMEA region. The collaboration builds on previous initiatives between the two firms, signalling a deepening commitment to digital transformation in the European telecoms sector.
Analysts note that AI partnerships are rapidly increasing in telecoms as operators seek to reduce network costs, improve operational efficiency, and develop new revenue streams amid continued investment in fibre and 5G infrastructure. Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries described the expanded collaboration as a “significant milestone” for the group, reinforcing its focus on innovation and customer-centric solutions.
The five-year deal underscores the growing role of AI in shaping next-generation connectivity, combining automation, analytics, and cloud computing to create smarter networks and more personalised services for millions of European consumers.
