Fixr Drives Solar Energy Adoption Among Nigerian SMEs To Curb Diesel Dependence

Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly turning to solar energy to reduce operational costs and mitigate the challenges posed by unreliable electricity and soaring diesel prices, industry experts say.

Brandspur Brand News Desk reports that Fixr, a leading renewable energy solutions provider, is helping SMEs transition from fuel-based power to solar through accessible financing models and turnkey installations. A recent survey of over 1,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises across Abuja and Lagos revealed that while 83.3 per cent of businesses rely on grid electricity, only 17.6 per cent have consistent access, forcing many to depend on costly diesel generators.

Historically, diesel generators have served as the mainstay for energy backup. However, the 2023 removal of fuel subsidies, combined with volatility in global oil prices—which saw diesel jump from ₦774 to over ₦1,100 in three weeks—has made generator use increasingly expensive and unpredictable. SMEs, operating on thin margins, face significant financial strain and operational disruption under these conditions.

Fixr’s initiative introduces solar energy as a practical alternative, enabling businesses to stabilise energy costs and maintain productivity. Financing models such as pay-as-you-go and lease-to-own reduce the high upfront costs of solar installations, allowing companies to pay over six to 12 months. Eligible businesses make an initial payment of 20 per cent, while the remaining 80 per cent is covered by financing partners, with installations completed within 24 hours to minimise downtime.

The solutions include comprehensive warranties covering solar panels for up to 25 years and batteries for five years, as well as access to trained technicians for installation and ongoing maintenance. This approach ensures long-term performance and maximises the return on investment for SMEs navigating Nigeria’s challenging energy landscape.

With diesel prices unpredictable and grid electricity unreliable, Fixr’s solar offerings provide a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution, helping Nigerian SMEs secure operational stability and reduce dependency on fuel-based power.
