Abuja, Nigeria – More than 300 developers, founders, and tech professionals converged in Nigeria’s capital last week for the inaugural Abuja Tech Meetup, an event designed to enhance collaboration and strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem.
Brandspur Brand News Desk reports that the gathering, organised by Go Global Talent Network in partnership with SyncHub, attracted participants from Lagos, Kaduna, and Niger states, alongside representatives from the United States Embassy in Nigeria. The event focused on addressing the isolation of young developers and its impact on innovation and product development.
In his opening remarks, Sam Hova, Team Lead at Go Global Talent Network, emphasised the need for collective innovation and urged attendees to move away from working in silos. “Collaboration is key to building a sustainable tech ecosystem. Communities, not just companies, drive growth,” he said.
A key panel discussion highlighted challenges in technology product development in Nigeria, noting a disconnect between technical teams and business founders. Strategist and innovation professional Kelechi Ndieze explained, “Developers ask if something can be built. Founders ask if it will sell. The critical question is whether it solves a real problem.” He further stressed that effective execution and problem validation are essential for early-stage innovators.
The meet-up featured sessions on emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, Web3, remote work, and career development. Early-stage startups also showcased products to gain visibility and engage potential users and partners. Local tech communities, including 247 Abuja and ETH ABJ, highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster grassroots participation.
Organisers announced plans to hold the event quarterly, complemented by mentorship and training programmes, both virtual and in-person, aimed at supporting early-career professionals. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s growing digital economy, where the ICT sector contributes approximately 20 per cent of GDP and continues to attract foreign investment.
