Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has announced that a Nigerian court has dismissed the criminal case filed against him over allegations that he impersonated a police officer by wearing a Nigerian Police Force uniform.
According to the activist, the court struck out the matter after finding that there was insufficient evidence to sustain the charge. He said the ruling effectively brought an end to a legal battle that had lasted about two years and resulted in his discharge and acquittal.
The development was disclosed by the activist in a post shared on his verified social media account on Tuesday. Brandspur Politics reports that VeryDarkMan celebrated the outcome, describing it as a complete legal victory while insisting he had been wrongly accused of committing a criminal offence.
The case centred on allegations that he unlawfully wore a Nigerian police uniform, an act authorities claimed amounted to impersonating a police officer, an offence under Nigerian law. VeryDarkMan maintained that the court’s decision to dismiss the case for lack of evidence confirmed his innocence.
Following the ruling, the controversial online personality expressed gratitude to his legal team and mocked critics who had predicted he would be convicted. He also made light-hearted remarks about becoming the “IG of online police,” a statement made in jest as he celebrated the outcome.
The court’s decision marks the end of one of the legal disputes involving the activist, whose social media campaigns and outspoken criticism of public institutions have frequently attracted public attention and legal scrutiny.
