MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has confirmed that Showmax Originals and select fan-favourite titles will transition to DStv Stream, ahead of the closure of the Showmax service on 30 April 2026. This move ensures viewers continue to enjoy award-winning African stories alongside live TV, sports, and a broader library of local and international content.
Brandspur Brand News reports that a dedicated Showmax section will be available within the DStv Stream app, offering a curated selection of popular originals, including WURA, Flawsome, Cheta M, Princess on a Hill, and Under the Influence. Content from other African countries, such as The Wife (South Africa) and Single Kiasi (Kenya), will also feature.
Existing Showmax subscribers on Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium packages will be automatically migrated to DStv Stream and can continue streaming at no additional cost until 31 May 2026. The platform provides on-demand access and live channels, consolidating entertainment, sports, and African storytelling in a single destination.
Kemi Omotosho, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, emphasised the company’s commitment to streaming innovation: “This transition reflects DStv’s long-term vision to combine on-demand entertainment and live television into a single platform tailored to how audiences want to watch today.” She added that Showmax has been instrumental in elevating African storytelling, creating world-class series through collaborations with local producers, writers, and creative talent.
Subscribers can enjoy a seamless viewing experience with DStv Stream’s familiar features, including pause and rewind on live TV, Watch From Start, offline downloads, and personalised recommendations. Sports remains integral, with SuperSport offering live coverage of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, Serie A, and more. Unlike Showmax Premier League, DStv Stream allows viewing on smart TVs as well as mobile devices.
