Veteran advertising executive Dr Tayo Oyedeji has officially assumed office as the Chief Executive Officer of AIKIDO Agency, marking a new chapter for the independent integrated marketing communications firm after serving in an advisory capacity for three months.
The appointment places one of Africa’s most experienced marketing and media professionals at the helm of the agency as it seeks to strengthen its presence across the continent’s fast-evolving communications industry. With nearly 30 years of experience spanning Africa, Europe and North America, Oyedeji brings extensive expertise in media, brand strategy, marketing, communications and business transformation.
His appointment comes after a distinguished career leading multinational advertising and media organisations, where he played key roles in shaping business strategy, expanding operations and delivering integrated marketing solutions for brands across diverse sectors. Brandspur Brand News understands that his leadership is expected to accelerate AIKIDO Agency’s ambition of becoming one of Africa’s foremost independent marketing communications companies.
Before joining AIKIDO Agency as CEO, Oyedeji served as Chief Executive Officer of Insight Redefini, a member of Publicis Groupe Nigeria, where he oversaw strategic growth and client transformation initiatives. Earlier in his career, he was Managing Director of Publicis Media Africa, based in Johannesburg, leading media operations across multiple African markets while supporting regional expansion.
His professional journey has also included senior leadership roles within OMD, Publicis Groupe and several independent agencies, providing him with extensive exposure to global industry standards alongside deep knowledge of African consumer markets. The combination of international experience and regional expertise has made him one of the continent’s recognised marketing leaders.
AIKIDO Agency was founded with the objective of building a leading African-owned integrated marketing communications business capable of delivering strategic, creative and media solutions to brands operating across different industries. The company is positioning itself to compete with both multinational agency networks and established independent firms.
Industry observers believe Oyedeji’s appointment reflects the increasing demand for experienced leadership as brands continue to adapt to changing consumer behaviour, digital transformation and evolving advertising trends across Africa. His background in managing cross-border operations is expected to strengthen the agency’s regional ambitions.
The African marketing communications sector has experienced rapid transformation in recent years, driven by increased digital adoption, changing media consumption habits and growing investment in integrated brand experiences. Agencies are increasingly expected to combine creativity with data-driven strategies to deliver measurable business outcomes.
With AIKIDO Agency entering a new phase under its new chief executive, attention will focus on how the firm expands its client portfolio, strengthens regional partnerships and positions itself within Africa’s competitive advertising landscape. Industry stakeholders will also be watching for strategic initiatives that reinforce the agency’s long-term growth objectives under Oyedeji’s leadership.
