Airtel Africa has confirmed that its fast-growing mobile money business, Airtel Money, will pursue a listing on the London Stock Exchange, saying the move is designed to attract a wider international investor base and unlock the long-term value of one of Africa’s largest fintech platforms.

The announcement was made alongside the company’s financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, with Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar stating that London offers the depth of capital and global investor participation needed to support Airtel Money’s next phase of expansion. The proposed initial public offering is expected to rank among the largest listings involving an African fintech company.

The company said the planned IPO remains subject to regulatory approvals, prevailing market conditions and the final structure of the transaction. Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that the listing is expected to separate Airtel Money’s high-growth financial technology business from Airtel Africa’s core telecommunications operations, giving investors clearer visibility into the standalone value of the digital payments platform.

Airtel Money has continued to record strong growth across Airtel Africa’s 14 operating markets, with annualised Total Payment Value surpassing $245 billion, representing a 51.5 per cent increase. The company attributed the expansion to rising customer adoption, broader use of digital financial services and increased demand for mobile money solutions across the continent.

Industry analysts believe the public listing could establish an important valuation benchmark for Africa’s mobile money sector. Previous market estimates have suggested Airtel Money could achieve a valuation exceeding $10 billion if the offering proceeds successfully, positioning it among the continent’s most valuable fintech businesses.

Investor confidence in the platform has strengthened over recent years following strategic investments from global institutions. In 2021, private equity firm TPG invested $200 million in Airtel Money at a valuation of $2.65 billion, while Mastercard committed an additional $100 million. An affiliate of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund later acquired a stake in the business, further reinforcing confidence in its long-term growth prospects.

The planned London listing comes as digital financial services continue to gain momentum across Africa, driven by increasing smartphone penetration, expanding financial inclusion initiatives and growing demand for cashless payment solutions among consumers and businesses.
