Marvel Studios has officially unveiled Black Panther III, confirming British actor David Jonsson as the franchise’s new lead during a major presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. The director revealed that the upcoming film will centre on T’Challa’s son as he grows into the responsibilities and legacy left by his father, expanding the future of Wakanda within Marvel’s interconnected universe.
The reveal took place before thousands of fans inside Comic-Con’s Hall H, where Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige joined Coogler and Jonsson on stage to introduce the next phase of one of the studio’s most successful franchises. Released in 2018, the original Black Panther became a global box office phenomenon, earning approximately $1.3 billion worldwide while receiving widespread critical acclaim for its storytelling, performances and cultural impact.
