Canal+ Wins Exclusive Rights to Broadcast UEFA Club Competitions Across Sub-Saharan Africa

Canal+ has secured the exclusive right to air all UEFA men’s club tournaments from the 2027/28 season through to 2031, giving Millions of football fans across Sub-Saharan Africa the access to continue watching Europe’s biggest club competitions.

The deal covers the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League across more than 40 countries, strengthening Canal+’s grip on premium football content and expanding its sports offering in the region.

For many supporters, it means continued access to some of football’s biggest nights, featuring clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as African stars including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Serhou Guirassy, Nicolas Jackson and Bryan Mbeumo. According to Brandspur Brand News, the agreement reinforces Canal+’s long-term investment in live sports as competition for premium broadcasting rights intensifies across Africa.

 

The arrangement also preserves SuperSport’s position in English and Portuguese-speaking African markets, where it will continue providing exclusive coverage of UEFA men’s club competitions to its subscribers. In French-speaking countries, however, Canal+ Sport channels will once again become the home of the UEFA Champions League while adding exclusive French-language coverage of the Europa League and Conference League for the first time.

The expanded football package adds to a growing list of competitions already available on Canal+ and SuperSport platforms, including the Premier League, LaLiga, Ligue 1 and the Betway Premiership, giving subscribers year-round access to some of the world’s most watched sporting events.

Canal+ Chief Executive Officer Maxime Saada said the company was proud to have secured the rights across Sub-Saharan Africa, describing the agreement as another major step in strengthening its sports portfolio. He noted that subscribers would enjoy four seasons of Europe’s elite club football under the new partnership.

The broadcaster also expressed appreciation to UEFA’s commercial partner, UC3, and sports marketing agency Relevent for their confidence in the partnership, following similar agreements reached in several European markets.

The latest acquisition reflects the growing battle among broadcasters to secure premium live sports, with exclusive football rights remaining one of the biggest drivers of subscription television across Africa.
