MTN Nigeria has warned subscribers to be careful of fake 25GB anniversary giveaway offers spreading online, as scammers target customers with links designed to obtain their personal information or money.
The telecommunications giant said the genuine 25GB anniversary offer is available only through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop. Subscribers have therefore been advised not to click on unfamiliar links or make payments to anyone claiming to be offering the free data.
The warning, shared through MTN Nigeria’s support account on X on Saturday, has become necessary as posts and messages promising subscribers free data continue to circulate across online platforms, Brandspur Brand News reports.
For customers who are eligible for the offer, MTN said the bundle can be accessed by logging into the MyMTN App and selecting “Redeem Now” on the anniversary banner. Subscribers can also visit the MTN eShop and follow the instructions provided.
MTN said customers who received an official SMS about the promotion could also use the link contained in the message to access the offer.
The company stressed that subscribers should be particularly cautious about websites or individuals asking for personal details, payments or other information before granting access to the supposed 25GB bundle.
For many Nigerians, free data offers are attractive, particularly at a time when internet users rely heavily on mobile data for communication, work, entertainment and online transactions. This makes anniversary promotions an easy opportunity for fraudsters to imitate legitimate offers and deceive unsuspecting customers.
MTN urged subscribers to confirm promotional messages through its official channels and avoid unauthorised platforms claiming to represent the company.
The telecommunications firm also reminded eligible customers that the 25GB anniversary bundle has a specified validity period and should be redeemed before the stated expiry time.
