Electric mobility company Spiro has appointed Auroasish Choudhuri as Managing Director for West and Central Africa, strengthening its regional leadership as it accelerates the expansion of its electric motorcycle and battery-swapping business across the continent.
Choudhuri will oversee Spiro’s mobility operations across both regions, bringing more than two decades of automotive industry experience spanning Africa, Asia and the Americas to the role.
The appointment comes as Spiro broadens its operations beyond electric motorcycles and strengthens its manufacturing, supply chain and battery-swapping infrastructure across African markets.
Brandspur Brand News reports that Choudhuri joins the company from DAG Industries Nigeria Limited, where he served as Chief Executive Officer with responsibility for operations in Nigeria and Benin.
Before DAG Industries, he held senior positions at TVS Motor Company and Escorts Limited, building experience across sales, business development, automotive operations and expansion into new markets.
His appointment also follows Spiro’s $270 million fundraising and a wider restructuring of the company’s leadership as it seeks to scale its electric mobility business.
Spiro has built its model around electric motorcycles supported by battery-swapping stations, allowing riders to exchange depleted batteries rather than wait for conventional charging. The system is intended to address one of the practical barriers to wider electric motorcycle adoption by reducing charging downtime.
The company currently has operations across several African countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
Its expansion is increasingly focused on building a wider electric mobility ecosystem rather than operating solely as a motorcycle provider. Manufacturing capacity and supply-chain development form part of that strategy as the company seeks to increase the availability of electric vehicles and supporting infrastructure.
Choudhuri’s familiarity with West African automotive markets, particularly Nigeria and Benin, is expected to play a central role in managing that next stage of regional expansion.
His appointment places him in charge of two important African regions as Spiro seeks to make electric mobility more widely available and affordable while expanding the infrastructure required to support its growing network of riders.
