MTN Nigeria has surpassed 100 million mobile subscribers for the first time, becoming the first telecommunications operator in the country to cross the landmark as its share of the Nigerian mobile market rises above 50 per cent.
The operator closed July with 100.86 million subscribers, compared with 98.64 million in June, according to the latest industry data from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
That represents an increase of more than 2.2 million subscribers in a single month, MTN’s strongest monthly growth so far in 2026 and its largest addition since November 2024, Brandspur Brand News reports.
The latest figures give MTN Nigeria a 51.76 per cent share of the mobile market, meaning more than half of active mobile subscriptions in the country are now on its network.
Crossing the 100 million mark further strengthens MTN’s lead in Nigeria’s highly competitive telecommunications industry, where operators are increasingly competing for customers beyond traditional voice services.
The scale of MTN’s subscriber base is particularly significant as mobile connectivity becomes more central to how Nigerians communicate and access digital services.
The jump from 98.64 million subscribers in June to 100.86 million in July also shows the pace at which the operator expanded its customer base during the period.
With a market share exceeding 50 per cent, MTN now enters the next phase of competition with a subscriber base larger than that of any other individual mobile operator in Nigeria.
The milestone could also intensify competition among operators seeking to capture the next wave of Nigerian mobile users as demand for connectivity and digital services continues to shape the telecommunications market.
For MTN, reaching 100 million subscribers marks a major point in its Nigerian operations and reinforces its position as the country’s largest mobile network by subscriber numbers.
