Flutterwave Appoints Morounke Olufemi Global CFO As Fintech Enters New Growth Phase

Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its Global Chief Financial Officer, placing the former Access Holdings executive at the centre of the Nigerian-founded fintech’s financial operations as the company moves into a new phase of international growth.

Olufemi joined Flutterwave in June 2025 as Chief Financial Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where she oversaw financial operations across more than 30 countries. She now assumes responsibility for the company’s global finance function following the departure of Mitesh Popat, who is leaving to pursue a new venture.

Brandspur Brand News reports that the appointment brings a senior financial executive with experience in banking, capital raising and corporate restructuring into one of Flutterwave’s most important leadership positions. Before joining the fintech, Olufemi served as Group CFO of Access Holdings during a period of significant capital and restructuring activity.

At Access Holdings, she was involved in the group’s $300 million Additional Tier 1 capital raise in 2023 and led its 2024 rights-issuance programme. Her experience also included mergers and acquisitions, including transactions that contributed to the formation of what became Nigeria’s second-largest pension fund administrator.

The move comes as Flutterwave operates at a scale that requires increasingly sophisticated financial management. In June, the company said it had processed more than one billion transactions and facilitated over $40 billion in total payment value since its inception.

Flutterwave also reported a 289 per cent increase in wallet-based transaction volumes over the preceding year, while the value of transactions conducted through bank transfers rose by 184 per cent.

The company’s expanding operations across different currencies and regulatory markets place greater emphasis on areas such as liquidity, foreign exchange exposure, capital allocation and regulatory compliance. Olufemi is expected to oversee these financial priorities as Flutterwave continues to expand its payment infrastructure.

Her appointment also comes as the fintech places greater emphasis on financial discipline and sustainable profitability. The company has highlighted margin growth, capital discipline and improved management of working capital and multi-currency liquidity among its priorities.

Flutterwave’s broader expansion has also taken it beyond conventional payment processing. Its acquisition of open-banking company Mono forms part of the company’s push towards a wider financial-services infrastructure offering, bringing additional opportunities alongside greater operational complexity.

Olufemi’s transition from a major Nigerian financial-services group to a leading fintech also reflects the increasing movement of experienced finance executives between traditional banking and technology companies. As African fintech businesses expand across markets, their financial functions are taking on responsibilities that extend beyond basic accounting to include capital strategy, liquidity management, regulatory requirements and profitability.

For Flutterwave, the change therefore comes at a point when the scale of its operations is placing greater demands on the systems and leadership responsible for managing its finances. The company said the leadership transition represents continuity in its existing financial strategy rather than a change in direction.
