Airtel Africa has pledged to strengthen customer experience across its 14 markets, backed by continued investment in network infrastructure, digital services and technology as the telecommunications group marks Customer Service Week 2026.

The company, which serves 183.5 million customers across Africa, said it is focusing on understanding customer needs and improving the reliability and accessibility of its services.

Brandspur Brand News reports that Airtel Africa’s latest customer service push includes the expansion of its network, wider digital access and measures designed to give subscribers greater protection from unwanted and potentially fraudulent messages.

Airtel Africa CEO, Sunil Taldar, said this year’s Customer Service Week theme, “The Extra Mile”, reflects the company’s approach to listening to customers and using their feedback to improve service delivery.

The telecoms group has added more than 3,250 new sites and 3,200 kilometres of fibre infrastructure over the past year. The expansion is intended to improve network coverage and capacity across its markets.

Airtel Africa has also invested in its retail outlets and distribution channels while rolling out digital services aimed at making it easier for customers to interact with the network.

One of the company’s recent technology initiatives is the commercial deployment of direct to device satellite connectivity in underserved rural communities. Customers with compatible smartphones can use the service in locations beyond the reach of conventional mobile networks, provided they have a clear view of the sky.

For subscribers dealing with unwanted messages, Airtel Africa has introduced Spam Alert, an automated service designed to detect and block suspected spam SMS messages while giving customers real time updates.

The company said its employees would also take part in Customer Service Week activities across its markets, with frontline teams engaging directly with customers to better understand their experiences and identify areas for improvement.

According to Taldar, the company’s investment in connectivity and digital services is aimed not only at improving individual customer interactions but also at expanding opportunities for people, businesses and economies across the continent.

The focus on customer engagement comes alongside Airtel Africa’s broader push towards digital and financial inclusion, with network expansion, technology and service improvements forming part of its efforts to make connectivity more accessible across the markets it serves.
