Nigerians can now find their exact digital postcode using the NIPOST Postcode app or the official postcode.gov.ng website, with the system allowing users to identify the code attached to their specific building.
The process relies on the phone’s location service and a satellite map to pinpoint the user’s position. Rather than entering a traditional address alone, users can select their building directly on the map to retrieve the corresponding digital postcode.
The Brandspur Brand News desk observed that the process begins by switching on location services on the phone before opening the Postcode app and selecting the “Find Postcode” option.
Once location access is enabled, the app locates the user and displays nearby buildings on a map. Each building is identified with a short code, allowing users to distinguish their location from surrounding properties.
Users are then instructed to tap the building where they are standing. The system generates the full digital postcode for the selected property and displays it on the screen, alongside options to copy, save or share the code.
In the demonstration, the system produced FC 02 D41 JW 01 as the postcode for the selected building.
The digital postcode can also be obtained without the mobile application through postcode.gov.ng/find. The website provides an option to use the device’s location, paste a Google Maps link or enter an existing postcode, without requiring users to create an account or sign in.
On the website, users can similarly view buildings and their identifying codes on a map before selecting the appropriate property. The system then works to determine the exact postcode linked to the selected location.
For Nigerians, the development provides a simpler way to identify and share a precise digital postcode, particularly where a conventional street address may not clearly identify an individual property.
The demonstration also shows that users need to pay close attention to the building they select on the map, as several nearby properties can have different postcode identifiers.
The NIPOST system therefore allows users to retrieve a digital postcode tied to their precise location and subsequently copy or share it when needed for addressing and location-related purposes.
