Saraki, Sanusi, Kanu Nwankwo To Attend Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria Launch In Abuja

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and former Super Eagles captain Kanu Nwankwo are among prominent personalities expected at the official launch of Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria in Abuja on October 17, 2026.

The event will bring together supporters of the English Premier League club from across Nigeria, with activities scheduled to include a football match, a market sanitation campaign and the association’s annual general meeting.

National president of Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria, Charles Ojugbana, said the organisation was established to strengthen support for Arsenal and improve the experience of Nigerian fans. Brandspur Brand News reports that the group also intends to combine football activities with charitable initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society.

The two-day programme will begin on October 16 with the club’s second annual general meeting, which will bring together representatives of its state and city chapters.

Activities on October 17 will include morning aerobics and a novelty football match before members participate in a clean-up exercise at Wuse Market in Abuja. The association will also donate industrial refuse bins and sanitation equipment to the market’s union leadership as part of its community outreach programme.

Other dignitaries expected at the launch include former senator Dino Melaye and Arsenal legend Kanu Nwankwo, who remains one of the club’s most recognisable figures among Nigerian football supporters.

Ojugbana said the association draws inspiration from players of Nigerian descent who have represented Arsenal, including Kanu, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.

The organisation operates through a board of trustees, a national executive committee and a general assembly, supported by a digital membership database.

Beyond football, Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria plans to introduce an awareness campaign for children living with Down syndrome in March 2027, to coincide with World Down Syndrome Day.

The proposed initiative forms part of the association’s broader charitable objectives, which it says include providing support for disadvantaged and vulnerable people.

The Abuja launch is expected to bring the club’s football following and community-focused activities together as it seeks to expand its presence across Nigeria.
