Aletheia University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has secured a full operating licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) after growing its student population from 33 at inception to more than 500 in three years.
The university, which began academic activities in the 2023/2024 session with 17 approved degree programmes, now has approval for 34 programmes and is projecting about 500 new students for the next academic session as it works towards a population of 1,000.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Olukayode Akinyemi announced the licensing milestone at a press conference on Friday, explaining that it followed an NUC assessment visit in March 2026. The assessment covered teaching and learning, research, administration, financial management and governance.
According to Brandspur Brand News, the university is also preparing for its maiden convocation ceremony and inaugural lecture in December 2026, marking another milestone in its development.
Akinyemi said the institution was investing in academic standards, infrastructure and staff development while expanding its professional training opportunities. Its Four Certifications Model is designed to equip students with academic, professional, information and communication technology, and entrepreneurial skills.
The university’s Law programme has received approval from the Council of Legal Education, while its Nursing programme has been accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
It is also preparing to seek accreditation for 13 additional programmes.
On infrastructure, Akinyemi said the university had completed its library and cafeteria, while additional hostels and staff quarters were nearing completion. Improvements are also under way in laboratories, Mass Communication studios and the English Language laboratory.
The institution offers a 50 per cent rebate for programmes in its College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, alongside a 100 per cent rebate for Agriculture through the Founder’s programme.
Its next Post-UTME screening is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the campus.
Beyond its academic expansion, Aletheia is developing partnerships to support research, innovation and career development. Its community programmes include poultry farmer empowerment, agricultural development, inter-school debates and youth mentoring.
The university is also pursuing research in food security, technology, information and communication technology, and artificial intelligence. Akinyemi said it was participating in the reporting process for the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The December events will feature an inaugural lecture expected to be delivered by the university’s Founder and Chancellor, retired Major General (Dr.) Sansadeen Adebanjo Awosanya
