Legend Internet, Spectranet Plan Strategic Merger To Boost Broadband Capacity In Nigeria

Spectranet Limited says its fibre broadband network now spans more than 300 locations across Lagos and Abuja as the internet service provider expands its infrastructure to meet growing demand for high-speed connectivity in homes and businesses.

The expansion centres on Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology, which delivers optical fibre directly to customers’ premises. The company is deploying the service across selected high-density residential estates and commercial areas, with further expansion underway.

The rollout forms part of Spectranet’s broader infrastructure strategy as it marks 15 years of operations. Brandspur Brand News reports that the company intends to combine its fibre network with its existing 4G LTE service rather than replace wireless connectivity, allowing it to offer different options depending on location and customer requirements.

Chief Operating Officer Sumit Gambhir said households increasingly depend on internet access for activities ranging from remote work and online learning to e-commerce, streaming and gaming. He said fibre infrastructure would help meet demand for multiple devices operating simultaneously.

Spectranet is also carrying out network optimisation aimed at improving connection stability, latency and service uptime. The company said it is upgrading its customer self-service portals, digital payment gateways and support channels as part of efforts to improve the user experience.

However, access to the service remains location-dependent. Although the network covers more than 300 locations in Lagos and Abuja, prospective subscribers are advised to confirm availability at their premises before arranging installation.

The company’s approach combines fibre’s capacity with the flexibility and reach of wireless broadband. Its expansion comes as homes and businesses increasingly rely on internet connections for work, education and digital services, although the announcement did not specify how many additional locations would receive fibre coverage or provide a timetable for the next phase of deployment.
