LG Electronics has commissioned its 21st solar powered borehole in Nigeria, extending its community water initiative to Osan Agba, Oke Oka Akoko, Ondo State.
The new facility is expected to provide residents with more reliable access to clean water while using solar energy to operate independently of the national electricity grid.
The project represents another step in LG Electronics’ community development programme, which combines renewable energy with basic infrastructure to address water needs in underserved communities.
Brandspur Brand News reports that the latest intervention follows the company’s 20th solar powered borehole in Nariya Rigasa, Kaduna State, taking the total number of installations to 21 communities across Nigeria.
Akoko South West Local Government Chairman, Ayọ Ajana, described the project as an example of how private sector investment can complement government efforts in addressing practical community needs.
He urged residents to take responsibility for protecting the facility so that it can continue serving the community over the long term.
For residents of Osan Agba, the impact is expected to extend beyond the commissioning ceremony. Reliable access to water can reduce the time households spend searching for the resource while supporting everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning and personal hygiene.
The Adedibu of Osan Àgbà Oka, Ologunbaba Ruben Ṣóyọ, said the project addressed a daily need for families in the community and appealed for collective efforts to preserve it.
Chief Darusa Adedibu, Olugbedere of Igbedere, Osan Àgbà Oka, similarly stressed the importance of bringing development closer to communities, particularly infrastructure that directly affects health, hygiene and household welfare.
Hon. Ajulo Tayo, Chairman of Udẹ̀ Osan Àgbà Oka, also called for responsible management of the facility, noting that its value would ultimately be measured by how well it serves residents over time.
Representing LG Electronics Nigeria Managing Director, Hyoung Sub Ji, at the commissioning, Choongbae Seok, General Manager, Media Entertainment Solutions, TV Department, said the company viewed the 21 installations as more than a numerical milestone.
He said the focus was on the communities and people benefiting from improved access to water, while highlighting the use of solar power as part of the company’s sustainability approach.
The Oke Oka Akoko project brings together clean water provision and renewable energy, allowing the facility to function without relying solely on grid electricity.
LG Electronics said its approach is aimed at creating infrastructure that remains useful beyond the day it is commissioned, with community participation and maintenance forming an important part of the initiative.
For Osan Agba residents, the immediate benefit is straightforward: a dependable source of clean water has been brought closer to where they live.
